Spring Mills is a perfect 10-0 against Martinsburg since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Cardinals will take on the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Spring Mills is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for Spring Mills' offense. They came up short against Washington on Wednesday, falling 6-0. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Cardinals were not able to get on the board.
Spring Mills saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Claire Wetzel, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles.
Meanwhile, Martinsburg hadn't done well against Hancock recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Bulldogs never let the Panthers get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory.
The result came thanks to Olivia Mullin's shutout, as she gave up just three hits.
At the plate, Tianna Sanabria was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Carly Durst also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Martinsburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hancock only posted a batting average of .238.
This is the second loss in a row for Spring Mills and nudges their season record down to 12-7. As for Martinsburg, their win ended a nine-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-14.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Spring Mills has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Martinsburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Spring Mills' way against Martinsburg in their previous matchup back in March, as Spring Mills made off with a 12-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
