For the first time this season, Mt. Shasta will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing at home against the Modoc Braves at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Mt. Shasta is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
Mt. Shasta had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but JV Opponent put an end to it on Saturday. The Bears came up short against JV Opponent, falling 19-1. The contest marked the Bears' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Mt. Shasta saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gracie Heile, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Modoc). They were the clear victors by a 28-7 margin over Bonanza on Wednesday.
Lynna Wolter was a standout: she fired off two home runs, four runs, and two stolen bases while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. Those runs were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Abigail DePaul, who got on base in all six of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs.
Modoc was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .519. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2025.
With the loss, Mt. Shasta broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-9. As for Modoc, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mt. Shasta has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Modoc struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Mt. Shasta couldn't quite get it done against Modoc when the teams last played back in May of 2025 as they fell 8-4. Will the Bears have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
