Softball Recap: Central Academy Drops Season-High Score on Monroe

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Central Academy). Everything went their way against the Monroe Redhawks on Tuesday as Central Academy made off with an 18-1 victory. The Cougars have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Redhawks, too.

Carys Thomas made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Darby Burnett, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Siena Crawford was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Central Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .917. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Central Academy has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. Monroe's loss was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-6.

Central Academy wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 12-9 defeat against Parkwood on the 20th. As for Monroe, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 19-17 loss against Garinger on the 19th.
