Two dominant backs in Spencer Bobian and Trenton Lynch are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Ridge View Blazers will welcome the Spartanburg Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Ridge View took a loss when they played away from home back in October, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Friday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 39-7 victory over Blythewood. Considering the Blazers have won seven contests by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Ridge View found their leader in sophomore Bijon Virgo, who threw for 100 yards and a pair of TDs, and also rushed for 39 yards and one touchdown.
Ridge View's run defense was locked in: Blythewood could only muster 2.2 yards per carry. The team can thank Raymond Jones for the heroic effort on defense: he. Ridge View's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.8.
Ridge View didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Isaiah Kennedy, Quency Grant, and Elisha Smalls picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Spartanburg had no trouble coming through when it counted. They breezed past J.L. Mann to the tune of 45-3 on Friday. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 24-3.
Ridge View better keep an eye on Trey Burke. He was instrumental in Spartanburg's win, throwing for 227 yards and three touchdowns. That's the most passing yards Burke has posted since back in September. Another player making a difference was Zymil Hill, who gained 100 total yards.
Ridge View pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 43.8 points over those games. As for Spartanburg, their win bumped their record up to 7-4.
Ridge View couldn't quite finish off Spartanburg when the teams last played back in November of 2021 and fell 32-29. Will the Blazers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
