If the Schaeffer Academy Lions were feeling good off their 63-23 takedown of Twin Cities Academy/Great River last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Schaeffer Academy suffered a rough 55-33 defeat at the hands of Spring Grove on Friday. While losing is never fun, Schaeffer Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 334th, while Spring Grove is ranked 157th).
Schaeffer Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Lillian Morrisey, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and four steals, and Linnea Ekbom who scored seven points along with nine rebounds. Morrisey has been hot recently, having posted three or more blocks the last three times she's played.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Spring Grove to victory, but perhaps none more so than Siri Konkel, who scored 14 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Emerson Ingvalson, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Schaeffer Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Spring Grove, their win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Schaeffer Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Wabasha-Kellogg at 1:00 p.m. on January 27th. Hopefully Wabasha-Kellogg focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 last Thursday. As for Spring Grove, they and Fillmore Central will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Fillmore Central will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Spring Grove surely won't give up without a fight.
