The O'Connor Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Shadow Ridge Stallions at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. O'Connor is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
While O'Connor's victory against Liberty wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over the Lions on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won three in a row.
Rachel Davis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, O'Connor let Sydnee Williams and Keygan Robinson run wild. Williams scored three runs while going 2-for-3, while Robinson scored three runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Robinson has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoey Kuhl, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
O'Connor hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Liberty struck out 12 times.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Shadow Ridge). They were the clear victors by a 34-1 margin over Apollo on Monday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Stallions with their most commanding win of the season.
Alexis Hughes looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Shadow Ridge got a massive performance out of Destiny Johnston, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, four runs, and five RBI. Liliana Moreno was another key player, scoring five runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4.
Shadow Ridge is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.6 runs over those games. As for O'Connor, their record now sits at 16-7.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. O'Connor has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .440. However, it's not like Shadow Ridge struggles in that department as they've averaged .466. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
O'Connor took their victory against Shadow Ridge in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 15-3 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Stallions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
