The DeKalb Barons are taking a road trip to square off against the Central Noble Cougars at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
While DeKalb didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on Fort Wayne Snider with a sharp 10-1 victory on Wednesday. The contest marked the Barons' most dominant win of the season so far.
Summer Haverstock made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, DeKalb got a big performance out of Paige Storck, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave Storck a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Stella Mix, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
DeKalb kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Wayne Snider only managed three hits.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Central Noble faced off against Lakewood Park Christian on Thursday. The Cougars never let the Panthers get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won three matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Like DeKalb, Central Noble also got a great game from a two-way player: Grace Swank. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. Swank was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Avery Deter was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Those RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season. Kennedy Vice was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
The win (which was DeKalb's third in a row) raised their record to 4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Central Noble, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
DeKalb came up short against Central Noble in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 5-0. Can the Barons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
