The Homestead Spartans will face off against the Jeffersonville Red Devils at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Homestead sitting on nine straight victories and Jeffersonville on four.
On Thursday, Homestead was able to grind out a solid win over Fort Wayne South Side, taking the game 3-1.
In the three sets Homestead was on fire: they won each by at least 11 points. The final score came out to 25-13, 17-25, 25-10, 25-14.
Meanwhile, Jeffersonville earned a 3-1 victory over Scottsburg on Thursday.
The match finished with set scores of 25-16, 25-7, 22-25, 25-9.
Homestead better focus on containing Malachi Crowder and James Medina as the pair were huge in Jeffersonville's win. Crowder had nine digs and four aces, while Medina had six aces. Those six aces gave Medina a new career-high. Tre'Sean Simpson also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.
Jeffersonville was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 19 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least ten aces in four consecutive matches.
Jeffersonville's win bumped their record up to 14-4. As for Homestead, their victory bumped their record up to 14-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's contest: Homestead has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.5 aces per game. However, it's not like Jeffersonville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.4 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
