The LaBelle Cowboys/Cowgirls have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 33 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Island Coast 60-17 on the road. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win LaBelle has managed all season.
Aariah Johnson was her usual excellent self, scoring 31 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. The match was her fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Taylor Cochran, who scored 12 points.
Island Coast's loss came despite strong showings from Aubrey Curry and Samarrah Desir. Curry scored eight points, while Desir scored six points. Curry scored a full 47.1% of Island Coast's points, the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
The victory was the sixth in a row for LaBelle, bringing their record for this year to 9-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.2 points per game. As for Island Coast, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. LaBelle and Barron Collier will face off at 1:00 p.m. on January 13, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for Island Coast, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Bonita Springs at 6:30 p.m. on December 21st. Bonita Springs is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
