On Tuesday, Corinth was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 45-44 to West Point.
Despite the defeat, Corinth saw an underclassman step up: Xae Mayes scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The matchup was Mayes' fifth in a row with at least ten points. Braedyn Burress was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Even though they lost, Corinth were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Corinth now has a losing record at 5-6. As for West Point, they pushed their record up to 7-4 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Corinth will square off against Tishomingo County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Tishomingo County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 249th, while Corinth is ranked 90th). West Point will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Itawamba Agricultural at 11:00 a.m. on December 29th.
