Resurrection Christian is a perfect 10-0 against Liberty Common since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Resurrection Christian is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games.
On Tuesday, Resurrection Christian earned a 5-2 win over Timnath.
Merick Fisbeck looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Resurrection Christian's victory was truly a team effort as eight different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Will Busby, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one double. Those two runs gave Busby a new career-high. Another was Weston Johnson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.
Resurrection Christian hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Timnath struck out 12 times.
Meanwhile, Liberty Common hadn't done well against Strasburg recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Eagles blew past the Indians 12-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.
Roman Galindo was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Liberty Common is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-7 otherwise. Galindo was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Owen Hood and Lucas Wagner did most of the damage at the plate: Hood went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, while Wagner went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Hood has become a key player for Liberty Common: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-8 otherwise. Raphael McDanald was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI.
Resurrection Christian pushed their record up to 10-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Liberty Common, their record is now 7-8.
Liberty Common's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Resurrection Christian has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Liberty Common, though, as they've been averaging 9 hits. Given Resurrection Christian's sizable advantage in that area, the Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.
Resurrection Christian took their win against Liberty Common in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 18-3 score. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
