The San Dieguito Academy Mustangs will face off against the El Camino Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. San Dieguito Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
San Dieguito Academy had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Morse on Monday. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 12-2 victory. Considering the Mustangs have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
San Dieguito Academy got a great performance from Lilly Besemer as she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Joie Brown, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Early, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
San Dieguito Academy hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in nine consecutive games.
Meanwhile, El Camino has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.6 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Monday. They lost 10-4 to Carlsbad. The Wildcats have struggled against the Lancers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.
Kailey Dain and Bella Mendoza did some serious damage despite the final result: Dain went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double, while Mendoza went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
San Dieguito Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for El Camino, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-9.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. San Dieguito Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. However, it's not like El Camino struggles in that department as they've averaged .348. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
San Dieguito Academy skirted past El Camino 7-5 when the teams last played back in April. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
