The Raymondville Bearkats are taking a road trip to square off against the Lyford Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Raymondville will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
Raymondville took a loss when they played away from home last Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Rio Hondo with a sharp 12-2 win. The Bearkats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Jacob Sosa made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Sosa was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Noel Reta, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Raymondville's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-10 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Tommy Gonzalez, who went 1-for-2 with three runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Lyford had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five. They walked away with a 10-5 victory over the Bearkats.
Like Raymondville, Lyford also got a great game from a two-way player: Riley Reyna. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Reyna has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, Gael Silva was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. Diego Medina was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Lyford pushed their record up to 19-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Raymondville, their record is now 16-10.
Raymondville couldn't quite get it done against Lyford in their previous matchup last Thursday as they fell 10-5. Can the Bearkats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
