The Boyd County Lions are ranked highly in their home state, and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of the Fairland Dragons. Boyd County lost to Fairland at home by a decisive 75-57 margin. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Fairland's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bree Allen, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. Allen is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 16 or more in the last three games she's played. Bailey Russell was another key contributor, scoring 22 points.
Boyd County's loss dropped their record down to 19-8. As for Fairland, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-1.
Boyd County will play host again and welcome Morgan County, where tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Boyd County is not getting complacent considering they own a much higher rank in Kentucky (they are ranked 11th, while Morgan County is ranked 128th). As for Fairland, they will head out on the road to face off against Notre Dame at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Fairland knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matches -- so hopefully Notre Dame likes a good challenge.
