Bloomfield has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Newington Nor'easters at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Bloomfield will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Connecticut Rankings (they are ranked 160th, while Newington is ranked sixth).
On Tuesday, Bloomfield suffered a tough 63-37 defeat at the hands of New Britain.
In what's become a running theme this season, Newington gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Wethersfield 54-16 at home. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Newington had established a 28 point advantage.
Bela Cucuta was her usual excellent self, scoring 13 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Hope Romanello, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Newington's lineup was just a bit different on Tuesday as Maggie Krusewski got a bit more time on the court (13 vs. her season average of six). Krusewski made the most of the opportunity, scoring seven points along with six rebounds and three steals. A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.
Bloomfield has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-15 record this season. As for Newington, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season.
Bloomfield was taken down by Newington 70-16 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Bloomfield was down 42-8.
