The Port Byron Panthers will venture away from home to take on the Fulton Red Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Port Byron is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.8 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Port Byron made easy work of Pulaski and carried off a 20-6 win. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by 11 runs or more this season.
Jenna Jump made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Port Byron got a massive performance out of Raelee McDowell, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with six stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Mallory Mills also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Port Byron was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .654. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Fulton hadn't done well against Auburn recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Red Raiders never let the Maroons get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory. The win was just business as usual for the Red Raiders, who after four games remain undefeated this season.
Auburn's batters probably weren't too happy with Emma Spaulding, who pitched a no hitter and racked up six Ks (she gave up a single walk). Those six strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Spaulding.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Rose Douglas, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Riley Trude, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Port Byron's record now sits at 7-1. As for Fulton, their record is now 4-0.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Port Byron has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 11 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Fulton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
