Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Marquez walked away with it. They came out on top against the University Wildcats by a score of 49-37 on Saturday. The win was nothing new for the Gladiators as they're now sitting on five straight.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Marquez to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elyjah Staples, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten boards. Another player making a difference was Cravon Charles, who posted 12 points and eight rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why University lost, don't look at Kahmron Hill. Despite the final result, he went 6-for-9 en route to 13 points and six boards. What's more, Hill also posted a 67% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Orpheu Cummings was another key player, putting up seven points and seven rebounds.
Marquez's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-12. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.6 points over those games. As for University, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-17 record this season.
