The Bellaire Big Reds will head out on the road to challenge the River Pilots at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Bellaire is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
Bellaire came up short against Beaver Local on Wednesday, falling 12-2.
Bellaire saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elisa Gillespie, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, River can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Shenandoah an 8-0 shutout.
Ava Wohnhas was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Mallarie Maddy was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Hagan, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
River's record now sits at 11-13. As for Bellaire, their loss dropped their record down to 8-12.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Bellaire hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like River struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Bellaire suffered a grim 10-4 defeat to River in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Big Reds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
