Basketball Recap: Saturday's Win Is Mater Academy Charter's Third in Last Four Outings

Mater Academy Charter won the last time they faced South Miami, and Jahi Lopez did his part to make sure it happened again. The Mater Academy Charter Lions couldn't have asked for a better start to 2025 than the 67-27 blowout they got against the South Miami Cobras thanks in part to Lopez, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten boards. Those 17 points gave him a new career-high.

Mater Academy Charter has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 8-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points per game. As for South Miami, they dropped their record down to 2-10 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Mater Academy Charter will be playing in front of their home fans against Doral Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for South Miami, they will head out on the road to take on Homestead at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Homestead is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.2 points per game this season.
