Heritage is 2-8 against Liberty since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Heritage Patriots will head out on the road to face off against the Liberty Lions at 7:00 p.m. Heritage will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 276th, while Liberty is ranked 137th).
Last Friday, Heritage got themselves on the board against Freedom, but Freedom never followed suit. They blew past the Falcons, posting a 35-0 victory at home. The win was just what Heritage needed coming off of a 56-28 loss in their prior match.
Mekhi Adanandus was the offensive standout of the game as he rushed for 161 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooks Davis, who gained 86 total yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Liberty unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 34-13 walloping at the hands of Pittsburg. Liberty was down 28-7 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite the loss, Liberty had strong showings from Ryan Mckendry, who gained 107 total yards and a touchdown, and Jaxon Bell, who rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown.
Heritage's win bumped their season record to 4-5 while Liberty's defeat dropped theirs to 6-3.
Heritage came up short against Liberty when the teams last played back in November of 2022, falling 35-28. Can Heritage avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
