For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Cox Mill and West Cabarrus meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Chargers blew past the Wolverines 15-5. Considering the Chargers have won eight matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Evie Flores made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Cox Mill let Paige Harmer and Kinslee Ellington run wild. Harmer went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Ellington got on base in two of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Those three stolen bases gave Ellington a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Arnold, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
Cox Mill hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive contests.
Cox Mill is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-13 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for West Cabarrus, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-12.
As of now, neither Cox Mill nor the Wolverines have any future games scheduled.
