Basketball Game Preview: Pyramid Lake Lakers vs. Sage Ridge Scorpions

The Pyramid Lake Lakers will square off against the Sage Ridge Scorpions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Pyramid Lake's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matchups.

If Pyramid Lake beats Sage Ridge with 56 points on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. Pyramid Lake blew past Excel Christian 56-31 on Tuesday. The Lakers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 20 points or more this season.

Pyramid Lake found their leader in sophomore William Darrough, who went 7 of 13 en route to 16 points along with five boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave Darrough a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Drevon Carpenter, who posted nine points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Pyramid Lake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Sage Ridge had to suffer through a 61-30 loss at the hands of Smith Valley. The contest marked the Scorpions' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Pyramid Lake's win bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Sage Ridge, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Pyramid Lake against Sage Ridge in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 60-32 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pyramid Lake since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
