Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Diablo Red Devils vs. Berean Christian Eagles

For the second straight game, Mt. Diablo will face off against Berean Christian. The Red Devils will welcome the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Mt. Diablo has struggled recently with five defeats in a row, while Berean Christian will arrive with four straight victories.

Mt. Diablo fell victim to Berean Christian and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 24-0 to the Eagles.

For Berean Christian's part, Joseph Angelo and Max McTighe made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Angelo struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, McTighe pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Angelo has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Angelo went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while McTighe went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs Angelo has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Nick Kullman was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ryder Walker, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.

Berean Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Berean Christian's win bumped their record up to 11-5. As for Mt. Diablo, their loss dropped their record down to 3-12.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mt. Diablo has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Berean Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts.
