It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Breathitt County Bobcats ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Powell County and snuck past 80-77. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Breathitt County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Austin Sperry, who scored 19 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds. Sperry is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 19 or more in the last four games he's played. Canaan Gross was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
Breathitt County's victory bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Powell County, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11.
Breathitt County will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Patriots at 7:30 p.m. As for Powell County, they will head out on the road to challenge the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
