The Holmes County Central Jaguars are on the road again on Friday and plays the Canton Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Mississippi (Holmes County Central is ranked 27th, while Canton is ranked 17th).
On Wednesday, Holmes County Central beat Greenville 41-33.
It was another big night for DeKyra Mitchell, who scored 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of I'Xana Winters, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Canton had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.4 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Wednesday. They came out on top against Gentry by a score of 41-31.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Canton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kylei Rogers, who scored ten points along with six steals. Rogers hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Journee Brown was another key contributor, scoring four points along with four steals.
Holmes County Central is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season. As for Canton, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 24-3.
Holmes County Central didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Canton in their previous meeting back in January, but they still walked away with a 38-32 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Canton's Shamira Morton, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds.
