If the Crystal City Javelinas were riding high off their 62-31 takedown of the Cotulla Cowboys last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Crystal City was dealt a 62-35 loss at the hands of Lytle on Friday. While losing is never fun, Crystal City can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 917th, while Lytle is ranked 363rd).
Calyssa Sevier was her usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double on 31 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 steals for Lytle. Sevier is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna Garcia, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds.
Crystal City's defeat dropped their record down to 14-14. As for Lytle, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 21-7.
Crystal City will be playing at home against Dilley at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Dilley comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last nine games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Lytle, they will head out on the road to take on Natalia at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Natalia focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Friday.
