The Davenport Wolves had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Lampasas 56-21 on the road. With Davenport ahead 35-14 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Davenport got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Triston Hamlin out in front who threw for 363 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 12.1 yards per attempt. Hamlin is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. Davenport also got help from Kyler Payne who showed off his sure hands for 85 receiving yards.
Davenport's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB seven times. The heavy lifting was done by Ryan Howe and Gianni Evans-williams who racked up five sacks between them.
Lampasas' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Haegan Oncken, who picked up 159 receiving yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Reed Jerome, who threw for 315 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.7 yards per attempt.
Davenport's victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-2. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 26 points. As for Lampasas, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Davenport will take on Burnet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Burnet is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Lampasas, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Marble Falls at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Marble Falls is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
