Kentridge hasn't had much luck against Kentwood recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Chargers will head out to face off against the Conquerors at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, Kentridge put up the most runs they have all season on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Auburn a 16-0 shutout. The Chargers have beaten the Trojans the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Trojans has come to flipping the script.
Jozi Thompson and Genesis Miller were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Thompson pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Miller didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Thompson has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Thompson scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Miller scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Naomi Benavides was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Makenna Bennett also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Kentridge hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Auburn struck out nine times.
Meanwhile, Kentwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat dating back to last season. They fell 13-10 to Mt. Rainier.
Joe Francis-Rodrigues made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Sofia Mottern Salinas was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.
Kentwood's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Kentridge, their record is now 5-1.
Kentridge's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. The Chargers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Kentwood, though, as they've been averaging only 0.5 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Kentridge continue to outrun the ball?
Kentridge might still be hurting after the 7-0 defeat they got from Kentwood in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Chargers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
