Ryan Penney was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Chaparral saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Mesa, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Centennial, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. Everything went their way against Arcadia on Tuesday as Centennial made off with a 17-0 victory. That looming 17-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Coyotes yet this season.
JT Price was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in earned runs (zero). He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bobby Villa III, who scored four runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Centennial's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 1-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Liu Rodriguez Jr, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3.
Centennial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Arcadia only posted an OBP of .083.
Centennial's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Chaparral, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.
