Alta took down Copper Hills 63-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Chipper Lucero threw for 197 yards and four touchdowns and ran for five yards in the win.
West Jordan made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,065 from 3,212. The improvement was the result of 20-14 victory over the Jaguars last week.
Austin Kafentzis was the most productive running back in 5A Region 3 this week. In 26 carries, he ran for 203 yards as Jordan beat Cottonwood. Teammate Jerome Bettis Vaituu added to the ground attack by rushing for 14 yards.
Krueger was the best wideout in the league this week as the Beetdiggers topped the Colts. Krueger racked up eight receptions for 131 yards. Nick West helped Jordan's passing attack out by catching eight balls for 117 yards.
6-foot-2 quarterback Lucero of the Hawks is the league leader in passing yards this season with 2196. He has also thrown 22 touchdowns. On the ground, Jordan's Kafentzis has rushed for 1212 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is West. The Jordan star has 45 catches for 678 yards.
The marquee game in 5A Region 3 this week will be the clash between Eric Kjar's team and Brighton. The Beetdiggers comes into the matchup ranked third in the state, while the Bengals ranks 13th.
Going into this week's game against Brighton, Jordan's Kafentzis needs 42 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season. So far this year, Kafentzis has thrown for 1958 yards with 22 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
Alta led the league in scoring this week after putting up 63 points on the Grizzlies. Lucero in the win.
