The Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Red Devils fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Camden Blue Devils on Sunday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 59-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Blue Devils. While losing is never fun, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 652nd, while Camden is ranked 28th).
Several Red Devils players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Eliijah Donegan, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. Donegan scored a full 37.3% of Vernon-Verona-Sherrill's points, the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Degaragen Paradis was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds and six blocks.
Vernon-Verona-Sherrill has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Camden, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vernon-Verona-Sherrill will take on Central Valley Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Central Valley Academy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 690 points over their last ten games. As for Camden, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Notre Dame at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Notre Dame is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
