Softball Game Preview: Delta Charter Dragons vs. River Islands Riptide

The Delta Charter Dragons will square off against the River Islands Riptide at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Delta Charter has given up an average of 13.1 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Delta Charter is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Elliot Christian last Thursday as they made off with a 23-11 win. With that victory, the Dragons brought their scoring average up to 8.1 runs per game.

Aaliyah Brown made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 13 batters over four innings while giving up five earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and four RBI.

In other batting news, Delta Charter let Madyson Torres and Evelyn Gutierrez run wild. Torres scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances, while Gutierrez scored four runs while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Hailee Valencerina, who scored a run while going 3-for-5.

Delta Charter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 12 runs the game before, River Islands was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They lost 19-1 to Ben Holt College Prep Academy.

River Islands dropped their record down to 2-5 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Delta Charter, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-5.

Delta Charter took their victory against River Islands when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 12-6 score. Do the Dragons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Riptide turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
