Basketball Recap: Lowell Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Bre Kidd and Elysia Laub

Lowell lost against Rensselaer Central back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Lowell Red Devils took a 53-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rensselaer Central Bombers. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 188th, while the Bombers are ranked 28th).

Despite the defeat, Lowell had strong showings from Elysia Laub, who posted seven points along with eight rebounds and three blocks, and Bre Kidd, who went 5 for 12 en route to 14 points. What's more, Laub also racked up three assists, the most she's had since back in January of 2024.

Taylor Van Meter was her usual excellent self, going 8 of 16 on her way to 17 points in addition to seven boards and six steals for Rensselaer Central. With that strong performance, Van Meter is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Kamri Rowland, who scored ten points along with five assists and five rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Lowell and nudges their season record down to 14-9. As for Rensselaer Central, they pushed their record up to 20-2 with the victory, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Lowell will take on Kankakee Valley at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th. As for Rensselaer Central, they will square off against Seeger at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
