Basketball Recap: John F. Kennedy Takes a Loss

After flying high against Bard Early College last Friday, John F. Kennedy came back down to earth. The John F. Kennedy Fighting Eagles had to suffer through a 69-41 loss at the hands of the Villa Angela-St. Joseph Vikings. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Fighting Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 80-43 back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why John F. Kennedy lost on Friday, don't look at Precious Williams. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 boards. Williams' evening made it eight games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Shatrice Wanzo-Lawrence was another key player, putting up four points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, John F. Kennedy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 11 consecutive matchups.

Elizabeth Dunmire was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 31 points and 15 boards for Villa Angela-St. Joseph. That makes it four consecutive games in which Dunmire has scored at least a third of Villa Angela-St. Joseph's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Dunmire, who posted eight points in addition to six assists and five rebounds.

John F. Kennedy's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Villa Angela-St. Joseph, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season.

John F. Kennedy has already played their next contest, a 0-0 victory against Collinwood on the 24th. As for Villa Angela-St. Joseph, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Cornerstone Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Villa Angela-St. Joseph is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.8 points per game this season.
