4A Conference 11 recap November 5, 2013
Sanderson scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Wake Forest, 14-10. At the time, the Cougars were ranked 18th in the state, while the Spartans were 84th.
Wakefield was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Heritage. The Wolverines came in at 22 in the state poll after placing at number 28 last week.
Matt Koehler was a passing and rushing force as Sanderson topped Wake Forest. He completed 7 passes for 105 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 40 yards. Koehler's key target this week was Bryson Powers, who caught 5 passes for 69 yards.
Powers was the best wideout in 4A Conference 11 this week as Ben Kolstad's team beat Reggie Lucas' team. Powers tallied 5 receptions for 69 yards. Jah Laville helped Sanderson's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 34 yards.
Wakefield's Evan Brabrand and Josh Lowery have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-3 quarterback Brabrand has thrown for 2,427 yards this season, while Lowery has 50 catches for 626 yards. Bryce Love from the Cougars leads the league in rushing with 1,545 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Wakefield takes on second place Leesville Road. Rod Sink's team topped Heritage last week, while Leesville Road defeated Millbrook.
The Wolverines' Kelton Whitehead needs only 75 yards against the Pride next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 139 carries Whitehead has put up 925 yards this year.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Spartans take on the Wildcats. Sanderson has allowed 173 points this season, while Millbrook has given up 137. The Spartans allowed 10 points last week as they topped Wake Forest.
Leesville Road added to the longest winning streak in 4A Conference 11 this week by beating Clarence Inscore's team, 7-3. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
