The Decatur Seahawks struggled with assists on Monday (the Wicomico Indians had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Decatur had to suffer through a rough 67-24 loss at the hands of Wicomico. While losing is never fun, Decatur can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 125th, while Wicomico is ranked 45th).
Decatur's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jozlyn Tyre, who scored five points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Lila Gunther, who scored seven points.
Wicomico was led to victory by Gabrielle Corbin and Se'Lah Foreman. Corbin dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds, while Foreman scored 27 points along with six steals. Corbin also posted eight assists for the first time this season. Carlisa Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Decatur and nudges their season record down to 10-7. As for Wicomico, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 18-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Decatur will take on Kent Island at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Kent Island is coming into the game with four straight victories on the road, meaning Decatur will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory. As for Wicomico, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Queen Anne's County at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Wicomico has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 781 points over their last 12 contests.
