Legend and the Huskies are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2016, but not for long. The Legend Titans will be playing at home against the Douglas County Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Legend's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six matches.
Even though Legend has not done well against the Golden Eagles recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Legend enjoyed a cozy 61-46 victory over the Golden Eagles. Given Legend's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 75th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Legend's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mason Borcherding led the charge by scoring 19 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Borcherding is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Katie Lamb, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Douglas County had to suffer through a rough 87-48 loss at the hands of the Raiders.
The losing side was boosted by Sofia Baldessari, who scored 27 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. That was a full 56.3% of Douglas County's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Ciara Laman was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Legend pushed their record up to 17-1 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Douglas County, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Legend have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 37.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Douglas County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Legend strolled past the Huskies in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a score of 55-41. Will Legend repeat their success, or do the Huskies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
