Sol McGarey of
Nordhoff (Ojai) is this week's MaxPreps California High School Football Player of the Week. MCGarey received nearly 62 percent of the total voting.
The senior running back set school records when he ran for 406 yards and
six touchdowns in a 57-22 win over Trinity Classical Academy (Valencia). McGarey has rushed for 749 yards in three games this season and eight scores for the 1-2 Rangers.
Here are the rest of this week's candidates, who collectively earned more than 69,000 votes:

Hunter Babb,
Caruthers: The senior quarterback ran for 331 yards and six touchdowns on 32 carries in a 58-27 win over Liberty (Madera). It was his fourth straight 300-plus yard performance.

Whit Kruse,
Twelve Bridges (Lincoln): The senior quarterback threw for 252 yards and four TDs on 11 of 15 passing in the first half of a 55-6 win over Wheatland.

St. Francis (La Canada): The junior quarterback had 176 yards rushing and 205 yards passing in a 42-13 win over Sultana (Hesperia).

Seth Shigg,
Chaminade (West Hills): The junior quarterback rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns while also throwing for 209 yards and a score on 16 of 22 passing in a 42-35 win over Loyola (Los Angeles).

Jerod "Bubba" Smith,
Fowler: Junior quarterback threw for 602 yards and eight touchdowns on 30 of 39 passing in a 60-24 win over Parlier.

Herschel Turner Jr.,
Mt. Diablo (Concord): The senior running back scored seven times, including six rushing touchdowns while running for 332 yards on 11 carries in a 53-20 win over San Lorenzo.
