The Mohave Thunderbirds will be playing at home against the Coconino Panthers at 5:30 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Mohave has struggled recently with nine losses in a row, while Coconino will arrive with three straight victories.
Mohave suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They were beaten by Prescott 63-18. While losing is never fun, Mohave can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 218th, while Prescott is ranked 107th).
Meanwhile, even though Prescott scored an imposing 55 points on Tuesday, Coconino still came out on top. Coconino snuck past Prescott with a 59-55 victory. That's two games straight that Coconino has won by exactly four points.
Coconino's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Autumn Larsen, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Larsen has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aviana Scharfenberger, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Mohave has been struggling recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 13 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. As for Coconino, they pushed their record up to 11-11 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Mohave was dealt a bruising 61-22 loss at the hands of Coconino in their previous meeting on January 8th. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Scharfenberger, who scored 17 points along with two steals and two blocks.
