Even though the Broad Run Spartans scored an imposing 60 points on Monday, the Yorktown Patriots still came out on top. Yorktown escaped with a win against Broad Run by the margin of a single free throw, 61-60. The victory was all the more spectacular given Yorktown's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 271st, while Broad Run is ranked 64th).
Andrew Maria was his usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with five rebounds. The contest was his fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brennan Pilot, who scored 13 points.
Yorktown has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 3-3 record this season. As for Broad Run, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.
Yorktown will be playing at home against Potomac Senior at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Potomac Senior is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games. As for Broad Run, they will head out on the road to face off against Stone Bridge at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
