Basketball Recap: South Cobb Sets Scoring Season-High Against Hillgrove

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Cobb). They walked away with a 67-54 victory over the Hillgrove Hawks on Tuesday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Eagles' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while the Hawks are ranked 29th).

Leading South Cobb to victory were Khalil Sylla and Donald McMillan. Sylla went 6 for 9 on his way to 15 points, while McMillan posted 14 points and six boards. The dominant performance gave Sylla a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathaniel Mitchell, who put up nine points and five rebounds.

Bryson Jatta and Asa Montgomery certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Jatta went 9 of 15 on his way to 25 points and five rebounds, while Montgomery almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. Jatta has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played.

South Cobb pushed their record up to 9-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points per game. As for Hillgrove, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-3.

South Cobb will challenge Paulding County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Paulding County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.7 points per game this season. As for Hillgrove, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Harrison at 7:30 p.m. Hillgrove also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 64.7 points per game.
