The St. George's Gryphons''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They fell 21-14 to Evangelical Christian. St. George's lost against Evangelical Christian in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 10-7 score last time.
Evangelical Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kade Butler out in front who threw for 154 yards and two touchdowns.
St. George's' defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Evangelical Christian, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. George's will take on St. Benedict at Auburndale at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Benedict at Auburndale comes in on a streak of failing to score more than seven points in their last six games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Evangelical Christian, they will be playing at home against Northpoint Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Northpoint Christian presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Evangelical Christian in their respective states (Northpoint Christian is ranked 55th in Mississippi, while Evangelical Christian is ranked 219th in Tennessee).
