The Beachwood Bison will face off against the Independence Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Beachwood has given up an average of 11.8 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Cuyahoga Heights hit Beachwood with a six-run fifth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bison came up short against the Red Wolves, falling 12-2. The Bison have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Beachwood saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ela Sasmaz, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI. Another was Lily Grover, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Independence waltzed into their game on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They were the clear victors by a 20-2 margin over the Knights. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by 14 runs or more this season.
Lila Manfredonia and Rabecca Gibson were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Manfredonia struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Gibson pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2025. At bat, Manfredonia went a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, one triple, and one run, while Gibson went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs.
In other batting news, Independence got a massive performance out of Bella Iacianci, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Iacianci a new career-high. Brooke Vollman was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Independence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.
Beachwood's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Independence, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Beachwood hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. However, it's not like Independence struggles in that department as they've averaged .404. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Beachwood suffered a grim 18-0 defeat to Independence in their previous matchup back in May of 2019. Will the Bison have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
