On Friday, The Merino Rams faced the Akron Rams in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Merino took down Akron 46-32. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
When it comes to explaining why Akron lost, one person who can't be blamed is Anderson Filla. Despite the final result, he rushed for 137 yards and four touchdowns. Filla is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played.
Merino's victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 4-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 45.5 points per game. As for Akron, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 5-3.
Merino will head out on the road to face off against Haxtun at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Haxtun will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line. As for Akron, they will be playing at home against Caliche at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Caliche comes in on a streak of failing to score more than six points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
