Basketball Recap: Vanguard Academy Sets Scoring Season-High Against Intermountain Christian

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Vanguard Academy). They came out on top against the Intermountain Christian Lions by a score of 64-54 on Tuesday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 61-47 back in December of 2024.

Vanguard Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Abel Jenkins out in front who went 8 for 19 en route to 19 points and four steals. With that strong performance, Jenkins is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. Jaxon Kingston was another key player, putting up 11 points and eight rebounds.

Vanguard Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Despite the defeat, Intermountain Christian saw an underclassman step up: freshman Knox Westenskow went 7 of 13 from beyond the arc on his way to 23 points and five boards. That was a full 42.6% of Intermountain Christian's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Hillaker, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.

Vanguard Academy now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Intermountain Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

Vanguard Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 71-52 loss against Utah Military Academy - Hill Field on the 15th. As for Intermountain Christian, they will face off against Rockwell at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Rockwell is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.9 points per game this season.
