Monroe is on a five-game streak of home wins, while the Tigers are on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Monroe Golden Tornadoes will take on the Carver Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Monroe knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six games -- so hopefully the Tigers like a good challenge.
Last Friday, Monroe strolled past the Trojans with points to spare, taking the game 62-46. Given Monroe's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Trojans are ranked 210th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Monroe found their leader in underclassman Kie'Aundria Acree, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and ten rebounds. Acree is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ciarra Lunsford, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Carver stacked a 13th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Saturday. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 77-27 victory over Thomasville. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 56-11.
Monroe is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. As for Carver, their victory bumped their record up to 16-6.
Monroe came up short against the Tigers in their previous meeting back in January, falling 76-65. Will Monroe have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
