Shenango has gone a perfect 3-0 against New Brighton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Wildcats will face off against the Lions at 4:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a five-game winning streak alive.
Shenango's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over Northgate. Considering the Wildcats have won five matches by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Trey Ross made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Shenango got a massive performance out of Sam Patton, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Joey Campoli was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
Shenango was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .364 or higher in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask New Brighton). They put the hurt on Aliquippa with a sharp 17-0 win on Monday. The Lions' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last four contests.
Casey Bloom was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Jaxon Childs also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Shenango's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for New Brighton, their record is now 5-3.
Monday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Shenango hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .402. However, it's not like New Brighton struggles in that department as they've averaged .399. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Shenango was able to grind out a solid victory over New Brighton when the teams last played back in March of 2019, winning 7-4. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
