Baseball Recap: Winston Academy Finds Playoff Glory Versus Kirk Academy

Winston Academy extended their postseason success on Thursday against Kirk Academy. They walked away with an 8-3 win over the Raiders. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 2-1 on Tuesday.

Reed Yates made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 6.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Yates was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jonah Hood, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Owen Woodward, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Winston Academy has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Kirk Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season.

Winston Academy will venture away from home to face off against Manchester Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mavericks have averaged an impressive 10.2 runs per game this season. Kirk Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
