It was a good run, but the Windham Whippets unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took a 59-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of New London. Windham has struggled against New London recently, as their contest on Wednesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Windham lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jaelize Rivera. Despite the final result, she scored 19 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Rivera is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Hailey Flores was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six assists and two steals.
Windham's defeat ended a 13-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-4. As for New London, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Windham will take on Griswold at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Griswold is coming into the match with four straight losses at home, meaning Windham will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. As for New London, they will head out on the road to face off against Norwich Free Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. New London knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Norwich Free Academy likes a good challenge.
