Palmyra has been on the road for five straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Yutan Chieftains at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Palmyra suffered their biggest loss since December 5, 2023 on Tuesday. They were the victim of a rough 58-32 loss at the hands of Conestoga. While losing is never fun, Palmyra can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 211th, while Conestoga is ranked 47th).
Despite the loss, Palmyra had strong showings from Drew Erhart, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and five steals, and Gou Kamishita, who scored 12 points along with two steals. That was a full 37.5% of Palmyra's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Palmyra struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They are winless (0-3) when they just don't pass the ball.
Meanwhile, Yutan's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They fell 44-35 to Douglas County West. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Yutan in their matchups with Douglas County West: they've now lost three in a row.
Palmyra's defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-10. As for Yutan, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.
Palmyra came up short against Yutan when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 56-49. Thankfully for Palmyra, Nolan Timm (who scored 31 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
